Hazardex 2019 Awards - Contribution to Safety Award Candidates

07 January 2019

A. Contribution to Safety. A product, system or service which has made a significant contribution to safety in hazardous area environments

Company: Axair
Product:  Storm centrifugal fans

Axair provide solutions to improve the air quality in the work environment, particularly in the process and hazardous industries. Their 'Storm' range of centrifugal fans are designed to extract harmful and corrosive vapours from areas of work.
When used as part of a Local Exhaust Ventilation system, the fans trap airborne contaminants at their source. The fans' polypropylene construction is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals and is ATEX certified, meaning that it can be used to improve the air quality in demanding, high hazard situations.
With Axair's industry-leading approach to production, customers can receive the solution for their safe areas of work within 2-3 days.

Company: HVAC & Refrigeration Engineering
Product: Hazcool HZ15 range of Atex-compliant compressors

HVAC & Refrigeration Engineering Ltd, Part of the Nucore Group, is an international provider of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration solutions to the oil and gas, marine and petrochemical industries.
Generally, the most commonly available ATEX and IECEx-compliant cooling equipment require a three-phase power supply to the compressors which is an effective solution for most of the industry. Yet, there are many remote applications that require ATEX / IECEx-compliant equipment, but only have a single phase power supply available.
Our team of designers and engineers worked to implement our ATEX and IECEx-certified solution for single-phase powered hermetic scroll compressors into a number of temperature-control units. The Hazcool HZ15 range of compliant compressors has enabled us to provide clients with temperature-control products that require 1ph/240v to operate and are safe for hazardous (Zone 1 and Zone 2) environments.
The ATEX and IECEx-certified HZ15 single-phase-type compressor is used in a number of our products which ensure a comfortable and safe environment for personnel:
• Hazcool Baseline BHZ1 Shower Tank Chiller Unit
• Hazcool HZ2 Rooftop Packaged Air Conditioning Unit
• Hazcool HZ14 External Wall-Mounted Packaged Air-Conditioning Unit
Integrating compliant cooling systems in hazardous areas with restricted availability of power supply options can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. HVAC & Refrigeration Engineering offers tailored solutions for challenging temperature-control requirements.

Company: Securex
Product: Sx Ex Electromagnetic Locking System
This locking system is a world first in that it is the first ATEX & IECEx Certified Electromagnetic Locking system of its kind. It is certified for Zones 1,2, 21 & 22.
With its development we have created a new and unique product, one that whilst commonly available in 'standard versions' for safe area applications has until now has had no equivalent for hazardous areas.
The product is already becoming very popular, selling into a diverse range of industries in hazardous areas both here (in the UK) and overseas as news of its availability gradually spreads.
Examples where sold to date include, Oil, Gas, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, etc.
Being fail safe, but with a strong holding force, the product is designed to enhance both the safety and security of personnel in these hazardous areas.
The product also features new and innovative 'high security' monitoring options. Once again these features have never previously been available in hazardous areas: They include built in Security Grade 2 & 3 equivalent door contacts with both monitored end of line and anti-tamper monitoring technology.
As this product has also been designed with both form and function in mind, it is both architectually pleasing as well as highly functional. It certainly does not look like your 'typical piece' of Ex equipment.
Company: Silver-Tec
Product: Silversafe 500 ATEX approved modular gas detector

Gas detection instruments constantly monitor for the presence of toxic and flammable gases along with the monitoring for low oxygen environments. These devices provide constant monitoring of the area in which they are installed. Should hazardous gases within the surrounding air exceed permitted levels, signals are sent to the control and monitoring panels and the warning and evacuation procedures are initiated.
Each system however requires different parameters such as output types, communication protocols and display options. A need for a modular device with the capability of adding and removing such functions/features is now more demanding than ever in order to be able to cover most projects including the ones with limited budget.
The Silversafe 500 is the latest ATEX approved modular gas detector offered by Silver-Tec which enables tailored functionality to meet project requirements at an optimized cost. Spending money on extra features that is not needed by the project is what Silversafe 500 is designed to avoid.
