Gas deal supplies China’s growing energy market

Qatargas, Shell and PetroChina have signed sales and purchase agreements to supply LNG from the state of Qatar to the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The deal will provide three million tonnes of LNG a year for 25 years from the Qatargas 4 project in Qatar. The gas will be shipped to PetroChina's LNG receiving terminals, a Shell spokesperson suggested.

The Qatargas 4 LNG project, which is currently under construction, is a partnership between Qatar Petroleum (70%) and Shell (30%). On completion, the combined Qatar 3 and 4 projects will generate 2.8 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas
