French regulator to maintain enhanced monitoring of EDF Belleville nuclear power plant
17 April 2019
France’s ASN nuclear regulator said on April 17 it was maintaining its close supervision of state electricity utility EDF’s 2,600 MW Belleville nuclear power plant, despite some improvements in safety at the plant. ASN placed the plant under enhanced supervision in September 2017 after detecting a deterioration in safety levels since 2016.

The regulator said that the state of the plant’s installations and safety practices had generally improved in 2018, but that progress remained to be consolidated and that overall performance still needed to improve.
The enhanced monitoring involves additional inspections in areas where the operator needs to progress, as well as targeted documentary checks. The action plan deployed by EDF is also periodically subject to close scrutiny by ASN.
