Understanding Ex d enclosures

07 April 2020

Explosive atmospheres require special precautions and protection concepts to ensure the safe use of electrical equipment. For example, pressure-sealed housings with Ex d type of protection offer an optimal solution for explosion protection. However, the end user must use them in accordance with the standards in order not to jeopardise the certification of all equipment.

The development of ignition protection concepts began in the early 19th century with the development of the first mine lamp. The use of ignition protection type Ex d revolutionised the safe use of electrical energy in mining. Accidents due to explosions in mines have been reduced to a remarkable level. Today Ex d housings are used in a wide range of industrial applications. These withstand the pressure of an explosion inside, the ignition energy is dissipated through the gap and does not escape to the outside.

Ex d housing for a colorful bouquet of possibilities

ROSE Systemtechnik produces enclosures with pressure-resistant encapsulation in different sizes and designs for use in different gas groups and temperature ranges. The company thus provides industry with a wide range of solutions for the safe encapsulation of electrical equipment.

Whether as a simple distribution box for energy, sensor signals or for complex controls - the Ex d enclosures from ROSE cover a wide variety of requirements in the industrial environment. The housings of the TBE, EJB, GUB and IJB series comply with protection class IP 66 according to DIN EN 60529 and are therefore dustproof and protected against the ingress of water.

The Ex d enclosures from ROSE are therefore ideal for use in the process industry. However, they are also used in measurement and control technology. The company offers both stainless steel and aluminum housings in its Ex d range.
