World first SIL3 certified Hart input module claimed
25 July 2008
Siemens has introduced, reportedly the world's first TUV SIL3 certified Hart failsafe analogue input module. Costing approximately 35% less than previous models, the module is available for use with Simatic ET 200M I/O and PCS 7F process safety systems and supports single, dual and triple redundancy architectures. The SM 336 module does not require redundancy to achieve SIL3 certification. Unlike traditional failsafe analogue input modules, the module achieves SIL 3 without redundancy.
The Simatic SM 336 offers a 50% reduction in size provides greater packing density. The module has six isolated Hart analogue inputs between channels and its backplane bus. The module provides short circuit protection and supports two or four-wire transmitters. Local LED displays indicate failsafe operation, channel specific faults and Hart status.
