Explosion at gas processing station kills two, injures eight in Ukraine

Two people were killed and eight were injured in an explosion at a gas processing station near the city of Kharkiv in the east of Ukraine on October 28. The incident happened in the district of Derhachi, just north of Kharkiv.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11:47 local time, the Kharkiv Region Police Department said in a statement. The State Emergency Service arrived at the scene to find that a natural gas explosion had occurred with smoke spreading across an area of around 200m2.
The Derhachi Police leadership team also attended the scene along with an investigative taskforce and a forensic team. A criminal case has been opened under the Criminal Code of Ukraine in relation to the violation of safety rules at a potentially explosive location.
Police officials did not indicate what caused the explosion.
