The Hindustan Times reports that the incident occurred around 05:00 local time. Local police said that a child who works as a rickshaw driver had taken the battery out of an electric rickshaw to charge overnight inside his home.

The force of the blast destroyed a brick wall which fell on a neighbour, his two 8-year old sons, and his 12-year old nephew. The nephew was trapped under the wall before being freed by his family and rushed to hospital, however he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The rickshaw driver’s father was also injured in the incident after he was splashed by battery acid.
