Two workers die in incident aboard FPSO offshore Ivory Coast

Two people died in an incident onboard an FPSO on January 14, the owner of the production vessel has said. BW Offshore said in a statement that an incident occurred while work was being performed in a cargo tank onboard the FPSO Espoir Ivoirien operating on the Espoir field offshore the Ivory Coast.

The incident happened at around 13:30 local time and BW Offshore confirmed two fatalities occurred following a leakage of hydrocarbons into the tank where the work was being performed. The families of the two workers have been informed, BW Offshore said.
Production on the FPSO Espoir Ivoirien has been shut down and the leak has been contained. All other personnel were accounted for. The FPSO is operated by BW Offshore for CNR International. Both companies are cooperating with local authorities in addressing the situation.
In the statement, CEO of BW Offshore Marco Beenen said: "This is a tragic day for the families of the men we have lost, and our hearts go out to them.”
