On March 16, Tianjin took a lead in building China’s first "ecological livable" and "intensive industrial" smart energy towns, and released the white paper "Tianjin Smart Energy Town". The town will play a major role as a demonstration and in advancing China's carbon peak and carbon neutral goals.

The newly built Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city Huifengxi "Ecological and Livable" Smart Energy Town and Beichen Da Zhangzhuang "Industry-City Intensive" Smart Energy Town, covering 10 technological innovation achievements including energy transformation, power grid upgrading, industrial upgrading, smart services, wisdom sharing, and 10 model innovation achievements including government-enterprise cooperation, ecological construction, brand influence, and management innovation.

Currently, the two smart town technology innovation projects have all been implemented. The project built the first domestic smart energy management platform for new-type cities and towns, creating a new model of clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy supply and use in northern China's cities and towns. The project has built the first intelligent IoT system covering all aspects of power generation, transmission, transformation, distribution, source, network, and load storage. It comprehensively utilizes intelligent IoT, 5G communications, and big data technologies to achieve "full perception" of the operating status of the energy network. The power grid operation mode has changed from the traditional "manual inspection" and "fault repair" to "intelligent inspection" and "active defence", which has promoted the intelligent and digital transformation of the power grid.

The two smart towns have a complete range of users, covering not only industrial and service users, but also government and residential users. It is fully integrated into urban infrastructure such as power supply, water supply, gas supply, heating, transportation, communication, greening, culture and sports. The application scenarios are rich, covering smart energy applications with multiple energy sources for electrical cooling and heating, multiple links between source and network load and storage, and multiple scenarios for production and life.

Yu Yixin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that smart energy towns have achieved innovative breakthroughs in energy transformation and power grids, industries, services and other fields, making successful explorations for the construction of smart energy and energy Internet, and building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient city in Tianjin. The energy system is of great practical significance, laying the foundation for the nationwide promotion of the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality".
