01 April 2021

One person was killed and another was injured following an explosion at a seed cleaning facility in Oregon, US on March 30. The incident happened near the town of Silverton, south of Portland.

Firefighters attended the scene after reports of a fire at Riches Seeds around 09:00 local time. Dark smoke could be seen rising from the building from several miles away. Workers at the site told fire crews that one person was trapped on the second floor of the factory.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and enable crews to enter the building. Unfortunately, one worker was found dead and another worker was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fire officials said an investigation into the explosion and fire is underway, however they suspect it was a dust explosion.
