DIN rail terminals for use in potentially explosive atmospheres

21 August 2008

IMO has gained ATEX approval, EX II 2GD Ex e II, for its Type ER range of feed- through, DIN rail terminals, and also for three sizes of its ERPE Din rail earth terminals, making both types suitable for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres 94/9/EC.

The ER DIN rail mounted terminals comprise a pair of single pole, feed-through terminal assemblies that are mounted into moulded insulation housings. Each terminal assembly consists of an electroplated copper current bar with screw clamping yokes that are zinc plated to increase their resistance to corrosion.

The terminal housings are manufactured from engineering thermoplastic Polyamide 6.6. This material has excellent electrical, mechanical and chemical characteristics, even at temperatures as high as 850C and offers the advantage of containing no cadmium-based pigments. The Polyamide 6.6 moulded housings absorb humidity from their surroundings, making the plastic material elastic and fracture proof, even at temperatures down to -200C.
