The incident happened at around 09:00 local time at an ouzo distillery. The blast is reported to have happened near a still, a piece of distillery equipment used to distill liquid mixtures. The injured were all employees at the distillery and were taken to Larissa Hospital.

The fire was extinguished by the distillery’s fire system and extinguishers while several firefighters attended the scene to ensure the site was safe. Greek news site GreekReporter.com reports that the distillery had a modern fire protection which likely suppressed the fire and prevented further damage.
