Rotajet machines to cut solvent use

27 August 2008

Rotajet industrial cleaning systems are the ideal way to cut solvent use for manufacturing companies that are still using vapour degreasing for cleaning components prior to painting or chemical pre-treatment. Environmental compliance can be achieved along with reducing costs – typically anywhere between £5,000 and £20,000 a year for medium- sized companies.

With their aqueous- based cleaning method, Rotajet machines completely remove the reliance on solvents for degreasing. As a result, they eliminate HSE issues regarding questions of harmful emissions, solvent handling and disposal; and also any problems concerning ATEX hazardous area zoning, due to the flammability of solvents. Rotajet, part of the Richard Alan Group, manufactures a full range of multistage machines for degreasing metal components prior to powder coating and wet painting. The standard range of machines has basket sizes ranging from 900mm to 2250mm square. In addition, Rotajet can also manufacture larger bespoke machines and tunnel wash machines, if required.

The Rotajet design incorporates a single wash chamber and three heated sumps; the machines being fully insulated to minimise heat loses. Once the components are loaded onto the workbasket, the basket is transferred into the wash cabinet and the cycle is started. For degreasing prior to painting applications, Rotajet recommends a combined iron phosphate degreaser used at 0.5%w/w, this product will degrease and phosphate steel components. The iron phosphate conversion coating not only protects the metal surface from corrosion, but also improves adhesion of subsequent paint systems.

Rotajet provides full turnkey packages across its full range of washing and degreasing machines. This includes design and manufacture of the machines themselves, water-based chemicals, guarding, transportation to site, installation and commissioning. The company also provides bespoke designs to customer specifications; this includes stainless steel pan washers for the food industry.
