Savings through Safety

22 June 2021

What does safety cost? You may think to yourself that this is just an issue for emerging economies. That established countries have standards, policies, and budgets in place to prevent major incidents occurring, and have learnt from expensive failures of the past. Unfortunately, this is not always case.

Just in the UK, the HSE estimated that the cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions in 2018/19 was £16.2 billion.  That is nearly £100 for every person in the UK in 1 year. And in 2019 OSHA reported that fatalities resulting from slips, trips and falls increased 11% over the previous year.  This indicates that it is not just an emerging economy issue and not even one that is improving.
This must improve, and it can improve with all the knowledge and the digital tools available to us in the era of 4.0 there is no excuse not to put measures and technology in place to protect workforces worldwide.
We must do things more intelligently; we must get everyone involved in safety from the top to the shop floor.  Safety is the foundation of a productive workforce, whatever industry, whatever scale, whatever risk.
Better safety results in better efficiency and profitability through less risk of lost time, fines, and penalties, and lowers the risk to the business and the workforce allowing continuous safety to be at the forefront of successful business strategy.
We at Yokogawa RAP have over 25 years’ experience with control of work digital solutions.  Our RAP4 System is designed to promote ideal behaviour, by bringing everyone onsite into the process, to enable collaboration between all departments, thereby facilitating a safe culture of work.

RAP4 is a fresh, intelligent alternative to just digitising your paper-based system and puts Risk Assessment at the heart of the permitting process.  With our expertise and experience gained over millions of hours of risk assessment, permitting and isolation management work, our insights have been refined into the RAP Cortex which sits at the centre of the system providing the information on potential hazards and mitigating controls via easy-to-use icons.  Knowledge of control of work systems is not required, RAP4 is highly configurable and designed to work for you.
