Pipeline pumping station explosion kills three in Iran

09 July 2021

An explosion at a pipeline pumping station in southern Iran killed three workers and injured four others on July 6, Iranian state media has reported. The blast happened at the Einkhosh oil field around 300 miles southwest of Tehran.

State media did not report on the conditions of the injured workers. Images shared on social media, reportedly taken at the scene, show a body covered by a blanket next to a charred building where workers were said to have been resting between shifts at the pump station.

Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh ordered an immediate investigation with the cause of the explosion still unknown. Zanganeh also called on the state oil company, NIOC, to help the affected workers and their families and to find out the reasons behind the explosion.

The three men who died in the incident are reported to have been technicians at the pumping station.
