Chemical plant explosion kills three, injures 15 in India

An explosion at a chemical plant in the state of Gujarat on India’s west coast killed three people and injured 15 others on December 16. The incident happened at a chemical manufacturing plant belonging to Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL) in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat.

The blast could be seen and heard from several miles away with locals posting images on social media of a large fire engulfing the site. The local police said that emergency services were able to bring the fire under control after several hours.

The incident started at around 10:00 local time inside the MPI-1 Unit of GFL plant which manufactures refrigerants and chemicals. Once the fire extinguished, officials conducted a search of the scene to rescue any survivors.

Of the 15 injured, three are reported to be in critical conditions. All the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment related to smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
