Yokogawa to supply safety and automation system to major Norwegian LNG project

25 September 2008

Yokogawa has received an order worth NOK 8M to supply an integrated control, safety and analyser system for the new natural gas liquefaction plant at Risavika, near Stavanger, Norway.

The order, which covers the supply of Yokogawa's recently introduced Centum VP Integrated Production Control System, ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented System and an analyser system based on the GC1000 Mark II process gas chromatograph, has been placed with Yokogawa by the Linde Group. Linde was awarded a contract for the turnkey construction of the plant by Skangass AS, a joint venture of the Norwegian utility Lyse Gass and the financial firm Celsius Invest.

The LNG facility has a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year and will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to industrial customers in Scandinavia and the Baltic region starting in 2010. LNG from the facility is marketed and sold by Nordic LNG - a joint venture between Skangass and the Norwegian shipping company I.M. Skaugen. Thanks to a highly energy efficient liquefaction process developed by Linde, the new plant will feature much lower emissions than comparable facilities.

“We are delighted to have received this order from a major customer in the Nordic region”, said John van der Geer, Manager of Yokogawa's Norwegian operation. “This is a typical project for Yokogawa, in which our broad product portfolio and local support allow the end-user to have a single point of contact for project commissioning and after-sales support.”

The order was awarded in August 2008 and is scheduled for completion in June2009.
