Science Minister Ian Pearson has re-appointed Professor Alan Thorpe as Chief Executive and Deputy Chair of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Announcing the appointment Ian Pearson said: "I am very pleased that Professor Alan Thorpe has agreed to remain as Chief Executive and Deputy Chair of NERC for a second term of appointment. He has contributed significantly to the important work of the NERC and will continue to play a key leadership role."
Professor Thorpe's re-appointment is for four years starting on 1 April 2009.
Professor Thorpe said: "Environmental research is critical if society is to address the tremendous challenges we all face; climate change, loss of biodiversity, unsustainable use of natural resources.
