Chemical plant explosion in China kills five, injures one

An explosion at a chemical plant in China killed five people on 1 May in eastern China. The incident happened in a hydrogen peroxide production area of a chemical plant in the city of Liaocheng.

The explosion happened at a facility operated by Luxi Chemical, a subsidiary of state-owned chemical manufacturer Sinochem. The blast caused a fire to break out which was extinguished within a few hours.


The administrative commission of the Liaocheng High-tech Industrial Development Zone said in a statement that one person was also missing following the blast. The injured person is continuing to receive treatment in hospital while rescue workers continue to search for the missing individual.


The exact cause of the incident is unknown and an investigation has been opened, the administrative commission said.
