Firefighters located quickly and easily

24 October 2008

Firefighters can be located quickly and easily with the Draeger FRT 1000 Fire Rescue Transceiver. Designed to aid find and rescue operations even where visibility is limited or where background noise might prevent firefighters from hearing their colleagues, the device can be used to trace single as well as multiple casualties.

This unit sends and receives low frequency signals which are not attenuated by walls and other obstacles. Should the wearer remain motionless for 30 seconds the device, will send an audible alarm signal and automatically change from “standby” to “transmit” mode.

The display, which automatically indicates the distance to the casualty, will then show an increase or decrease in this distance depending on the direction taken by the wearer. If several firefighters are motionless, the device will isolate the strongest signal from a distance of about 10m, identifying the closest victim first and enabling casualties to be located sequentially.

The Draeger ETR 1000 Egress Transmitter can be strategically placed at the exit or in stairwells, etc. Once the casualty has been reached the FRT 1000 can be switched to “Egress Transmitter Search” mode and the display will automatically indicate the distance to the ETR beacon.
