Baseefa has issued the UK’s first, IECEx Certificate covering the Repair and Overhaul of Rotary Machines for use in explosive atmospheres, to Dowding & Mills UK (Middlesbrough).

Established in 1910, Dowding & Mills are the leading independent provider of electromechanical services, specialising in the inspection, maintenance and repair of all makes of electric generators, motors and associated equipment, electronic process control equipment as well as extensive calibration and repair services.

In presenting the certificate to Carl Mudd, Managing Director of Dowding & Mills (Middlesbrough), Ron Sinclair, Managing Director of Baseefa congratulated them on their achievement at being the first UK rotary machine repairer to gain this status and hoped their relationship with Baseefa would go from strength to strength. In reply, Carl Mudd said that having excelled in that area they were very proud to be the pioneers in the British repair industry in being accredited as an IECEX Service Facility. As an international organisation carrying out work all over the world they are pleased to be able to provide customers with independent assessment of competency to repair Ex equipment.

The IECEx Certificate issued to Dowding & Mills (Middlesbrough) provides users with a means of showing compliance with ATEX / DSEAR requirements in ensuring competency in respect of repair and overhaul of electrical equipment. The certificate covers flameproof d, increased safety e and non sparking n protection concepts in accordance with the latest requirements of IEC 60079-19:2006 and the IECEx Scheme operational documents.

Speaking about the IECEx Service Facility Scheme, Baseefa Facility Scheme Manager, Allan Ogden, highlighted the fact that it covers the repair and overhaul of equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, providing both OEMs and end-users with the confidence that repair workshops work in accordance with strict technical and quality system requirements, laid down within an international (IEC) framework. The certificate issued to Dowding & Mills attests that their service facility has been independently assessed and found to have the appropriate equipment, competent staff and operating procedures, which in turn will provide added confidence to their customers that the repair and overhaul work complies with all the relevant IECEx requirements.
