11 November 2008
ICS Triplex, a Rockwell Automation Company, has completed and installed its first safety and critical control system to use its latest product, AADvance. Bayer CropScience, a subsidiary of Bayer AG, awarded ICS Triplex with the order for a Process Safety Control System in February 2008, just five months after the product’s launch at Offshore Europe, Aberdeen in September 2007.

The new system was installed at Bayer CropScience’s Norwich site in June 2008 and, after successfully completing the final onsite tests, it became fully operational in August 2008.
The Norwich site is Bayer CropScience’s largest manufacturing site in the UK, producing crop protection chemicals for sale worldwide, as well as specialist industrial chemicals. The state-of-the-art AADvance system has replaced a previous safety system which monitored the first stage synthesis of one of Bayer’s key herbicides.
The AADvance system has been built to SIL 2 standards using simplex configurations and has been designed to monitor the manufacture of a chemical intermediate used in the manufacture of a broad-leaved herbicide used in cereals, cotton and vegetables. Due to AADvance’s unique scaleability in size, safety and reliability, ICS Triplex were able to create a system tailor-made to the unique needs of Bayer CropScience.
In the open, competitive market the decision from Bayer CropScience that the latest AADvance product met the criteria for a specialist electronic-based safety and critical control system is further recognition of ICS Triplex’s continued commitment to the control and safety needs of the modern world of the process industry.
