Peppers Cable Gland: ‘It’s all about the experience’
01 December 2008
For over 60 years, Peppers Cable Glands has been involved in the manufacture and sale of Cable Glands, giving the company a wealth of experience and expertise within the industry.
Operating from its UK base in Surrey, Peppers Cable Glands runs a satellite manufacturing system using group companies situated in the North of England. This provides an assured supply chain and when paired with their global distribution network, results in on-time deliveries for customers. But quick deliveries are only part of the service. “It’s all about the complete experience,” said managing director, Tush Thakore. “We aim to give our customers excellent service not just in terms of our quick deliveries but from when first contact is made and throughout the quotation, ordering and expediting process.”
Peppers’ customers can be sure that they are getting accurate advice and if the company is unable to meet client requirements they will always be informed. “We don’t tell lies or bend the truth to secure orders. Peppers’ simply does not promise what it cannot deliver.”
Peppers operates a quality management system, approved to ISO 9001:2000. All new employees are trained to recognise what it takes to meet these standards and staff assessments are undertaken regularly to ensure that the highest levels of customer service are maintained at all times.
Peppers supplies a wide range of glands for Exd/Exe and industrial applications but specialises in the manufacture of glands for hazardous area applications within the oil, gas, marine and petrochemical industries. Peppers products carry multiple certifications for global use. These include IEC, ATEX, UL, CSA, NEPSI and GOST. The global nature of the company’s business is shown in its reference list, which includes projects like Chilean LNG, Sonatrach PJ in Algeria, Isle of Grain LNG in the UK and Sakhalin Island OPF in Russia.
Peppers range of glands incorporate some special engineering features: The CR gland for armoured cable features a single orientation clamping system, allowing the clamping of all armour types with no mistakes being possible in the installation process. The advertising slogan “No reversible Components – No Mistakes” sums up this benefit. Deluge is achieved without the use of additional sealing devices due to ingenious engineering.
Peppers barrier glands have other advantageous features including reduced installation times due to a filling compound, which enables the conductors to be disturbed and terminated within the equipment after only one-hour. And after only four hours, the equipment can be energised and the compound chamber may be inspected. A chamber construction provides a cable acceptance that is on average 18% larger than existing barrier gland designs allowing the use of smaller glands, significantly reducing cost.
The product has been very successful since its launch and has won industry awards including the HazardEx Technical Innovation of the Year.
Glands can be supplied in various different materials including brass, aluminium, polyamide and stainless steel. They offer various plating options for corrosion protection, including nickel, tin and zinc. Peppers also supply accessories, which include a comprehensive range of certified thread adaptors, reducers, stopping plugs and breather drains.
Peppers are always working to develop new and innovative products within the market. At present there are new products being developed by Peppers’ able engineers, who constantly strive to improve the quality of Peppers products in accordance with industry standards. The whole ethos of Peppers Cable Glands is excellent customer service and everything the company does strives to uphold this philosophy.
