Security training for process industries

23 December 2008

Honeywell has partnered with TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in compliance testing and certification, to offer specialised certification courses for plant security professionals. Through the TÜV Security Professional Manager training course, plant personnel can gain a better understanding of best practices that can help make their plants more secure in the face of evolving threats – everything from natural disasters to terrorism threats.

The program will be part of safety courses offered by Honeywell through the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program. Since program inception, more than 1,500 people have been trained and certified in functional safety. Honeywell is the first manufacturer to offer both security and safety certification courses for the process industries under the roof of the TÜV Functional Safety Program.

Upon completing the three-day course – designed for a range of personnel such as plant security managers, HSE professionals, human resources leaders who work with security and process operators – participants will be able to better assess their plants’ security needs and identify elements of an integrated security solution. Additionally, participants will have a better understanding of threat and risk assessment, technology development, design and selection, and evolving trends in safety and security.

“Our customers tell us safety and security are increasingly becoming a bigger part of their everyday jobs, but it’s challenging to keep assets safe and secure while production demands also increase,” said Scott Hillman, director of marketing for greenfield solutions, Honeywell Process Solutions. “The TÜV Security Professional Manager training modules are designed to provide practical advice that manufacturers can use to help them be better prepared to deal with potential incidents, avoid downtime and protect their people.”

Various course topics include the need for security; terrorism and terrorist intent; global security environment; principles of protection; business value of security; legislation and regulation; and measuring effectiveness of security systems. Participants who pass the examination will receive a TÜV Rheinland certificate and will be permitted to use a TÜV Rheinland Security mark on their business cards.
