22 January 2009

ABB Drives Alliance member Quantum Controls (QC), formerly Slater Drive Systems, has received an award for the way its drive solutions contribute to energy efficiency and low carbon emissions.
Managing Director of QC, Kevin Brown, was presented with the first EEF/One North East Low Carbon Innovation Award at the Delivering the Low Carbon Economy conference, organised by the Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF).

Presenting the award, EEF CEO Gilbert Toppin, said: “The award recognises QC’s ability to grasp an opportunity, take risks and strive to pave the way for their sector, and the industry as a whole, by creating profitable solutions to the global challenge of climate change.”

QC has helped many companies cut their energy use and hence carbon emissions by installing ABB variable speed drives on numerous industrial applications throughout the North East.

The conference was held to allow manufacturers to explore the commercial opportunities presented by the move to a low carbon economy. “Innovation in low carbon products and services is a significant step towards cementing a company’s position in a low carbon economy.” Toppin said.
