Employees of sign installation and maintenance firm Xmo Strata will begin using specially designed checklists to highlight potential workplace hazards and serve as a reminder to carry out last minute safety checks.

The company – which has crews working on retail parks, high streets and petrol forecourts nationwide – designed the checklists to cover essential safety considerations including hazard identification, last minute risk assessments and risk control measures.

“All too often accidents occur because people become complacent having done the job so many times before,” said managing director Steve Martin. “The only remedy for this is to instil the importance of safety checks at every turn and in every way possible.

“The new checklists, distributed to all employees and sub-contractors, remind teams to consider various factors when planning their work, from other contractors working on-site to weather conditions. They also detail the hierarchy of risk control and the correct procedure for the isolation of energy sources,” Martin added.
