Low on-resistance line switch

07 May 2009

Torex Semiconductor has introduced the 2nd generation XC8102 Series. Available in the ultra-small USP-4 package, as well as in standard SOT-25 and SSOT-24 versions, the device does not require any external capacitors and so is suitable for space critical designs.

Many key features on the XC8102 device have been improved upon over the XC8101 Series. The second generation XC8102 Series addresses a wider range of applications – we've increased IOUT to 400mA from 200mA, lowered the VIN range to 1.2V minimum from 1.8V and lowered the ON resistance to 0.35Ω (VIN = 2.9V) from 0.75Ω.”

The XC8102 Series contains a current limit and protection circuit so these are not required externally unlike discrete circuit solutions where MOSFET and resistors are used.

The XC8102’s CE pin controls the ON/OFF for each switcher to deliver power as and when needed thereby optimising efficiency and power consumption. During the switch into standby mode, the electric charge at the CL capacitor, if used, is discharged via the internal auto-discharge switch, ensuring that the VOUT pin drops down to ground quickly. The XC8102 Series contains an over current protection with fold-back current circuitry which operates as over current protection and short circuit protection for the output pin.
