First delivery of Ex d ultrasonic detectors is shipped to BP West Java

18 May 2009

The first order for Groveley Detection’s Ex d ultrasonic detector has been shipped to the Lima platform in the BP West Java complex in Indonesia.
The hazard detection specialist’s GDU02 Exd flameproof, omnidirectional ultrasonic gas leak detector will respond to any pressurised gas leaks by detecting the ultrasonic noise generated by escaping gas.

Groveley’s Nigel Lock said: “We shipped 18 units to Lima - they were chosen because of their low maintenance and ability to detect very low level gas leaks. Detecting low levels is vital to help save lives and allows remedial action to be carried out before a potential hazardous situation develops.”

The units were supplied via Groveley’s distributor in south east Asia, Simtronics.

The GDU02 Exd is factory-calibrated and has no moving or replaceable parts so no field service is required, and it responds instantly to leaks over a wide dB range. Standard operating temperature is -30ºC to +75ºC and optional operating temperature can go as low as -40ºC.

BP's West Java field is Indonesia's largest supplier of gas to the West Java market. Facilities include 670 production wells, 170 platforms, over 40 processing and service facilities, along with approximately 1,600 km of sub-sea pipelines.
