Klinge Corporation, the specialist manufacturer of transport and storage refrigeration equipment, has won a new lease contract with the US space program.
The company based in York, Pennsylvania, will provide six explosion-proof refrigeration units to United Space Alliance (USA), NASA’s prime human space operations contractor.
In a two-year lease deal with USA, Klinge Corp. will deliver the Picture Frame Refrigeration units (model PFR-561Ex) to Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
The 20-foot refrigerated containers are to be used for the storage of hazardous material and will include explosion-proof interior lighting and fire suppression systems.
Klinge Corporation President and CEO Henrik Klinge said: "Our company’s experience in providing refrigeration systems for the transport and storage of medicines and chemicals has enabled us to provide the kind of specialist equipment needed by USA."
"This is a prestigious contract for Klinge Corporation, and a testament to the quality engineering, research and testing that has made us a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialized transport refrigeration equipment," added Mr. Klinge.
The Klinge refrigerated containers will allow USA to expand its storage capacity for hazardous materials more rapidly than permanent walk-in freezers.
The systems will maintain a constant temperature against external temperatures up to 50 degrees Centigrade.
As required by the customer, the lighting and other electrical components will comply with the warehousing of hazardous material up to Class I Division I, Groups C & D in classification.
