EU New Legislative Framework

Richard Lawson, who is the Head of Technical Regulation at the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills will give a talk on the development of the European Legal Framework for market surveillance and the work on the coordination of UK Market Surveillance policy in response.

The talk will also look ahead to the anticipated future harmonization of the obligations of Economic Operators as envisaged by the EU Decision on a common framework for the marketing of goods.

Lawson is a career administrative civil servant with a law degree from Oxford. He is responsible for coordinating UK Government policy on the EU New Legislative Framework. This includes its interests in the New Approach CE Marking Directives, with a particular interest in policy on Market Surveillance. In the past, he worked on financial administration & internal audit, energy policy and on nuclear safety policy -- including the coordination of technical assistance to Eastern Europe following the collapse of Communism.
