Safe operation of plant and processes in the hazardous area is the theme of the HazardEx 2010 conference, which will be held at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate on February 24th and 25th. This year’s programme concentrates on the experiences of leading end-users in the oil, gas and downstream process industries where hazardous areas exist and safe operational procedures must be adopted. A provisional programme has been drawn up and the conference organiser has confirmed speakers including: Gordon Macdonald, HSE Director of hazardous installations; Richard Lawson Head of technical regulation, BIS; and Stuart Hawksworth, Head of the Explosion Safety Unit at Health and Safety Laboratories who will detail the findings of the investigation into the explosion at ICL Plastics, Glasgow.

Two of the country’s leading associations – UK Petroleum Industry Association and the Energy Institute – will represent the interests of their many influential members by presenting papers on the experiences of process and energy companies in safe operation in the hazardous area. Speakers from leading manufacturing and processing companies including Ineos Chlor, Solutia and Dow Corning will also present end-user based papers covering a variety of their experiences in achieving compliance with the directives and regulations needed to operate in the hazardous area.

Other papers will look at issues of non-electrical and dust hazards while Ron Bell will provide an insight into the developing functional safety standards and Ron Sinclair will discuss the new IECEx personnel competency scheme.

For more details about the 2010 conference programme, please read on in this week's newsletter.

The full conference programme will, as in previous years, be supported by an exhibition and demonstration area where delegates can learn about the products and services available to the hazardous area industries during the generous meal and refreshment breaks included in the programme.
Delegates can choose from a broad range of packages which include either or both days of the conference with optional attendance to the Gala Dinner of Wednesday February 24th, when the HazardEx 2010 awards will be presented with after dinner entertainment provided by football legend Jack Charlton.

Full details are available from the HazardEx website where delegates can also down load the conference booking form. Please follow the links below.
