Swedish owned Roxtec’s UK operation landed the deal to supply the project to build two semi-submersible drilling rigs with a combined value of £300m. Roxtec started supplying cable and pipe seals for the construction of the hull in Russia and then worked on the living quarters in the UK. It is now supplying the project at the Jurong shipyard in Singapore.
Roxtec’s UK managing director Graham O’Hare said the deal showcases how effective the Swedish owned firm’s Multi-Diameter™ seals are in the oil and gas sector.
"In a highly safety conscious and dangerous sector such as off shore drilling it is vital to have the highest possible standards of safety," he said. "Our seals are among the toughest and most innovative in the world. They will be used to protect electrical cabling and piping on the rigs from a range of hazards including fire, explosion, flooding, vibration and gas."
O’Hare said Roxtec is supplying more than 1000 cable and pipe transits for each rig.
"Our products are being used extensively on the rigs, hull, bare deck unit, topsides, living quarters and process units," he said. "A new Roxtec product, RS PPS/S is being used to protect plastic pipes from fire and flooding in an A60 bulk head. But critically we are saving the customer a huge amount of time and money because our products eliminate the need for additional sleeves and manifolds. It is therefore much easier to install saving man hours and unnecessary disruption."
O’Hare said Roxtec is keen to grow its business further in the off shore sector and wants to speak to electrical, mechanical and instrument engineers specifying safety products at the design stage.
"Roxtec is well established in the off-shore sector and we are determined to build on that track record," he said. " Roxtec is not only safe but offers operational reliability. Using a product of Roxtec’s quality is therefore critical for both safety of the project and the engineering firm’s piece of mind."
