Automation solution for new power plant in Greece

ABB has recently won an order from turnkey power plant contractor Rodax to design, engineer, supply and commission a complete distributed control system (DCS) solution for a new 427-megawatt, gas-fired thermal power plant. The Aliveri plant is being constructed on the island of Evia, in eastern Greece. Rodax is a subsidiary of the energy, infrastructure and defense contractor, Metka.

The Aliveri plant is being constructed on the island of Evia, in eastern Greece. Rodax is a subsidiary of the energy, infrastructure and defense contractor, Metka.
The solution is based on ABB’s state-of-the-art System 800xA automation platform and includes its System 800xA High-Integrity SIL3-rated safety and protection system.
ABB is also responsible for the seamless integration of the gas and steam turbine control systems, being supplied separately through the turbine manufacturer, Alstom.

Owned by the Greek national utility, Public Power Corporation, Aliveri is part of its ongoing programme to replace aging plants with high efficiency and low emission units. Scheduled for completion in 2011, Aliveri will be among the most efficient gas-fired power plant in Greece.
