ATR Group has further strengthened its position as the market leader in tool rental to the North Sea oil and gas industry, after sealing an exclusive agency deal with Norwegian cold grinding and cutting systems specialist Safety Tools Allmet.

The arrangement sees Aberdeen-headquartered ATR become the only distributor of Norwegian specialist Safety Tools’ innovative ATEX-certified gear, which was designed to reduce heat and spark production to cut fire risks at worksites.

Its founder, Reidar Olsen, spent a decade developing a special grinding tool which allows work to be carried out in areas where conventional tools would pose a risk of fire or explosion.
The low levels of vibration generated by the machines means that they can be used for extended periods of time – increasing safety and reducing the symptoms of hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS).

ATR continues to carry out research and development work on solutions to hand arm vibration syndrome, with a laboratory testing unit aiming to eradicate the problem.

Managing director, Keith Moorhouse, said: "This deal pushes both firms into new areas of the marketplace, enabling us both to widen our impact in the oil and gas sector and improve the service we offer to our clients.

"Safety Tools Allmet has been a prominent figure in oil and gas for a number of years, leading the market in Norway, and we’re delighted to have secured this exclusive deal with them, covering the rights to market and distribute the highly technical drilling and grinding products they manufacture.

"ATR Group’s core business is the rental of specialist tools and equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry maintenance market and the aim for both sides of this agreement is to continue to secure continued growth across the sector."

Stuart Cohn, international sales and business development manager at Safety Tools Allmet, said: "The partnership with the ATR Group is the perfect match for us and will allow us to further boost what we believe is significant growth potential, with our aim to turn over £1m in the UK within two years.

"A major contributor for us is the strong customer focus offered by the ATR Group, which matches our own philosophy when it comes to working with the marketplace.

"Reducing the risk of hand-arm vibration syndrome, in-turn increasing safety for workers in oil and gas, is a high priority for both organisations and we believe that working with ATR will allow us to bring benefits to the whole sector."

ATR Group, which comprises Tool Rental, Plant and Lifting divisions, operates throughout the North Sea and UKCS, and the Caspian region.
