Enclosures for hazardous areas
14 September 2010
Calling on its many years of experience in developing customer-specific enclosure solutions Weidmüller has now defined certain assemblies and product combinations as standard products, so that these can now be ordered directly from a catalogue. This applies to eleven design sizes of the Klippon K-series (aluminium enclosures) as well as five design sizes of the Klippon POK-series (polyester enclosures).

Enclosures for hazardous areas
The enclosures can be fitted out with 24 different terminal rails, the majority of which are fitted with screw (clamping yoke) or tension clamp connection technology, and three different sizes of mounting plates equipped. These standardised assemblies can be combined with one another to any number of variants so that from this aspect alone the customer can choose from an extremely varied standard programme and cover his individual requirements perfectly in the shortest possible time.
It is often the case that customer requirements are fulfilled from the outset by Weidmüller's all-round standardised solutions in the form of pre-drilled empty enclosures with terminal rails or equipped and assembled mounting plates. Customers are able to select these standardised heavy-duty assemblies in line with their application requirements and then install them as part of their overall solution.
However, for hazardous areas Weidmüller offers tested distribution enclosures equipped with terminal rails and threaded holes, which we supply together with the appropriate ATEX certification. Optimum solutions taken from a catalogue save time and costs when ordering, as it does during the project planning phase; what is more products available from stock reduce delivery times as well as being part of a more cost efficient approach.
The approach to standardisation of empty enclosures with threaded holes in detail: all eleven design sizes of the Klippon K-Series (aluminium enclosures) and the five design sizes of the Klippon POK series (polyester enclosures) have threaded holes on two sides (side A / side B) and up to two drilling variations per enclosure type. All drilled holes have metric threads.
The 24 different terminal rails are available with terminal blocks either equipped with screw (clamping yoke) or tension clamp connection technology. BK block terminals for enclosures of smaller design sizes are an exception. All terminal rails have one or two PE terminals integrated. The PE terminal serves as an end bracket for the W-Series; end brackets are mounted with Z-Series products. A bag containing fixing screws and marking materials (markers 1-50) is included in the scope of supply.
Three different sizes of mounting plates can be ordered. The user is able to mount different multiple-pole terminal rails horizontally or vertically on the mounting plate in line with requirements. The mounting plate is supplied with the corresponding threaded holes; lock nuts are not required.
When selecting distribution enclosures the customer is also able to order a combination of empty enclosures with drilled holes and terminal rails either to industry standard or with ATEX certification. When selecting industry standard versions users combine their terminal rails with the appropriate enclosure. Klippon K-enclosures are supplied unpainted; Klippon POK enclosures are coated with RAL 7001 (grey). When selecting Ex versions users select an enclosure including a pre-equipped terminal rail under a sngle part number. Klippon POK enclosures are supplied coated black (RAL 9011), Klippon K-series enclosures are unpainted and supplied with an external PE connection. An adhesive Ex rating plate is already attached to the lid of the enclosure on delivery.
