Predictive diagnostics in remote applications

Emerson Process Management has launched a physically smaller version of the CSI 6500 Machinery Health Monitor to allow predictive condition monitoring for rotating equipment.

This version is more versatile for installation in remote or skid mount applications, while still delivering the same capabilities for improving availability and reliability of critical equipment.

With this solution, critical machinery health monitoring does not have to be sacrificed because even the most remote machines are cost-effectively included in the overall picture of machinery health. As in the full-sized chassis option, prediction capabilities in the smaller unit can be delivered as a standalone solution, integrated with both the DeltaV and Ovation digital automation systems in the PlantWeb digital plant architecture, or interfaced to third-party hosts.

In applications such as cooling towers, excavators or dumper trucks, cranes, conveyors, or wind turbines, critical equipment is often allowed to "run to failure" because the machines are in unsafe or hard-to-reach locations.

The smaller version of the CSI 6500 is only 19cm wide by 27cm (6U) high, making it more practical in these remote monitoring situations. With either 12- or 24-channel count configurations, the CSI 6500 can be designed to provide only as many channels as the application requires.

As with the full-sized monitors, state-based triggered acquisition versus round robin data collection is utilised, so monitoring is tailored to process conditions or machine states rather than collecting generic vibration data. Smart communication handling includes 32Mb of onboard memory to handle the challenges of remote applications such as intermittent network connections. Trends and machinery health information are delivered to AMS Suite: Machinery Health Manager predictive maintenance software for advanced analysis and documentation.
