NAT switch with user-friendly routing functionality

24 September 2010

The FL NAT SMN 8TX switch from the Factoryline product family from Phoenix Contact combines routing and switching functions in one and the same device. Using this switch, it is possible to always assign the same IP addresses to individual machines and then to convert these into the IP address ranges of the higher-level company network required for the particular application.

The 1:1 NAT (Network Address Translation) ensures static mapping of an internal IP address from the LAN to an external IP address from the WAN. As a consequence, an external host can reach the internal device as if both were in the same subnetwork.

The switch offers routing and 1:1 NAT for the WAN port (uplink). As standard switch ports for the lower-level network, the additional ports are used for fast data exchange within the machine. Important data management functions are available for this purpose – such as priority assignment (quality of service), redundancy, and port mirroring. The device can be configured via a Web server as well as via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). If a fault occurs, simple commissioning and replacement are ensured as a result of the interchangeable FL MEM PLUG configuration plug.
