Durable, adaptable, and lightweight linear position sensors

12 October 2010

Honeywell has introduced the Smart position sensor 225 mm linear configuration, its second non-contacting linear position device that joins the Smart position sensor 75 mm linear configuration introduced in December 2009. The 225 mm Smart position sensor senses the position of a magnet relative to a sensor from 0 mm to 225 mm.

Honeywell's Smart ( Superior Measurement, Accurate, Reliable, Thinking) position sensor is one of the most durable, adaptable, and lightweight linear position devices available in the industry today. Its simple, non-contact design eliminates mechanical failure mechanisms, reduces wear and tear, improves reliability and durability, enhances operational efficiency and safety, and minimises downtime.

The Smart position sensor 225 mm linear configuration's two output options include analog or digital for use in control systems requiring an RS232-type interface with a 57.6 kbits/s baud rate. The device accurately measures values down to 0,14 mm analog and 0,0035 mm digital.
The Smart position sensor’s adaptable, non-contacting design allows customers to eliminate unnecessary connections for installation, thereby reducing installation time and components. The device installs in four easy steps versus up to 14 steps some competitive products require, simplifying installation and reducing costs.

The Smart position sensor’s air gap of up to 3,0 ± 2,5 mm between the sensor and the magnet and a variety of output options (analog standard, other RS232-type baud rates) expand application opportunities.

As there are no moving parts within the sensing element, Honeywell seals the sensor, making it resistant to vibration, shock, and extreme temperatures.
