Wireless barcode reading in hazardous areas

At Hannover, Pepperl+Fuchs showcased a wireless barcode reading system, which is designed for applications in hazardous areas accordant zone 1 (ATEX).

The company explained that the barcode reader transmits the captured data to the base station, while both components are designed for hazardous areas.

Power supply is provided by a charger, which is located in the safe area, while the company says that the system is suited for reading of all market standard barcode families and is optimized for capturing of operating data under rough conditions. Hence with the help of patented technology it is possible to recognise safely barcodes which are dirty or damaged.

They add that the targeting guide assists the user if codes are located very close. Three green LEDs located on the top and back of the barcode reader are visible from any angle and confirm that the code has been read successfully. Successful reading will also confirmed acoustically, the result can be read in the display. The wireless barcode reader is designed for rough industrial conditions. Even after a fall from a height of two metres correct functioning of the device is guaranteed. The big reading distance of up to 1100 millimetres as well as the distance to the host of up to 50 metres meets customer requests for capturing operating data under rough conditions in hazardous areas. The wireless barcode reading system of the product line PowerScan can be used in combination with operator workstations VisuNet, with operator terminals TERMEX as well as a standalone solution.
