UKT&I and Subsea UK Highlight Oil and Gas Opportunities in Brazil

03 May 2011

UK companies will be urged to seize the business opportunities that are rapidly emerging in Brazil’s oil and gas sector at a topical breakfast taking place this week, during OTC in Houston. The business breakfast, which will be chaired by Subsea UK board member Dr Patrick O’Brien, features key industry speakers who will give a greater insight into the region’s prospects.

Dr O’Brien, who is also group director of strategic business and marketing at Wood Group Kenny, said: “Brazil is fast becoming a very exciting oil and gas province with very real prospects. It is vital that UK companies and organisations harness these opportunities by capitalising on their world class expertise, industry know how and innovation. “But they must act now to take advantage of this potentially very lucrative market which boasts South America’s second largest oil reserves, next to Venezuela, with hot spots including the Santos, Campos and Espirito Santo basins as well as major pre-salt fields. Industry collaboration and developing long-term relations in Brazil are key for the UK if it is to seize a significant share of the region’s prospects.” The business breakfast will be opened by Sir Alan Collins, KCVO CMG, British consul-general, New York and director general at Trade & Investment USA. Speakers include Orlando Jose Soares Ribeiro, research and development programme manager procap 3000 at Brazilian state oil company Petrobras, who will highlight the opportunities emerging in the country, while Dr Tim Clarke, chief executive officer at OMS, a global-leading supplier of pipe measurement devices, is to share his experience of doing business in the province. Jim Feeney will then close the session by highlighting UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) global initiatives.
