QPD first flows off Qatar

23 May 2011

Cosmo Oil, Japan's fourth-biggest oil refiner, and partner Sojitz Corp has kicked off production at A-Structure South Field offshore in the Middle East region of Qatar.

Qatar Petroleum Development (QPD), the joint venture operating company, started pumping around 3000 bpd at Block-1 located in southeastern Qatar, bringing total production from the three fields in the block to around 9,000bpd.

QPD used existing crude processing facility and re-injected sour gas in the field. Under a production sharing contract with Qatar, Cosmo Oil holds 75 per cent and Sojitz 25 per cent on QPD.
