Next Generation Safety Relays

07 July 2011

Rockwell Automation offers the broadest portfolio of machine and process safety devices, systems and services in the world. This breadth of product offering on the market alongside the offerings of its competitors means there is an immense choice of functionality, type and technology available. By drastically simplifying the range with its versatile Next Generation Safety Relays, Rockwell Automation can deliver more tangible benefits to its customers as they select the appropriate solution.

GSR – Guardmaster Safety Relay
A single catalogue item addresses the numerous issues raised above:-
 Universal input – supports the majority of safety components;-light curtains, mats, safety switches, emergency stops, etc.
 Twice the functionality of a standard relay – two separate safety inputs in a 22.5mm housing
 Single wire safety connection – this new functionality allows the user to increase the number of outputs with a TUV approved single wire connection whilst maintaining the safety integrity at SIL3 – thereby simplifying wiring
 Easy configuration – single rotary switch in combination with the single wire connection allows AND/OR functional control giving users the ability to address applications such as zonal control, maintenance functions or global/local emergency stop circuits
 6 SKU’s – from 50+ relays to six
With this in mind, Rockwell Automation is introducing its next generation of safety relays, which boast the flexibility to fulfil the majority of the requirements needed for safety related applications despite being reduced to a range of just six products...    This doesn’t mean the rest of the existing portfolio will become obsolete, just that for customers who wish to simplify their inventory and usage, there is a new option - to select the smaller family of next generation, newer technology safety relays.
The versatility to support many functions and applications
With the range’s ability to be function-configured for simple logic tasks and having universal inputs, this much smaller family of relays can support a broad range of safety devices for a variety of applications. The universal input feature allows devices such as safety interlock switches, emergency stop switches, pressure sensitive mats and OSSD devices such as safety light curtains to use the same set of terminals. This removes the requirement for a specific safety relay for a specific type of input devices and allows simplified system design, inventory management and maintenance in the lifecycle of a system.
The six safety relays available are:
 Safety relay with a single dual channel input and two relay outputs
 Safety relay with a single dual channel input and three relay outputs
 Safety relay with two dual channel inputs and two solid state outputs
 Safety relay with two dual channel inputs and two relay outputs
 Safety relay output expansion module with four instantaneous relay outputs
 Safety relay output expansion module with four delayed relay outputs via adjustable rotary switch
With this family of next generation safety relays, Rockwell Automation is confident its customers will welcome a smaller family with increased functionality to help them with their machine safety requirements.
