A full range of ATEX cylinder sensors are now available from ifm electronic.

With the launch of the latest versions of the MK-range of pneumatic cylinder sensors, ifm electronic can now offer users and OEMs a range of sensors for explosion hazard areas.
The ATEX Directive 1999/92/EC (implemented in the UK as DSEAR, The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002) stipulates that places where explosive atmospheres may occur should be classified into one of six zones according to the nature of the risk. Furthermore, equipment for such must be selected on the basis of the categories set out in Directive 94/9/EC (in UK The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 1996, Statutory Instrument No. 192).
ifm electronic now offers cylinder sensors that conform to the requirements of these categories, in both solid state and reed versions. For Gas Zones 1 and 2 and Dust Zones 21 and 22 there is a version with an integrated six-metre cable to keep connections out of the way. If the requirement is for Dust Zone 22 alone, there is a choice of units with a short cable and an M12 connector, or a 2m cable. The devices designed for Gas Zone 2 are also approved for Zone 22 and again come fitted with 6m cable.
The ifm sensors have many advantages, including a secure locking mechanism, strain relief, easy single-handed installation, and an LED display for the switching status. All ifm ATEX cylinder sensors are a snug fit into a T-slot. With the range of accessories, these sensors can be fixed to common tie rod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinders, and there are even adapters offering extra mechanical protection. In addition to the sensors, ifm offers a range of NAMUR switching amplifiers for Zone 1 / 2 and 21 / 22 sensors.
Should the installation be beyond the bounds of the ATEX jurisdiction, there is also IECEX Certification applicable to the Zone 1 / 2 and 21 / 22 sensors.
