Steeleville Fire Chief Carlos Barbour states that the two maintenance workers were welding a piece of equipment at the Gilster-Mary Lee plant when there was a dust explosion.

Company officials have commented that a damage assessment of the plant and its equipment was conducted and operations were resumed hours after the explosion.
