23 November 2011

ecom Instruments, the global ATEX equipment manufacturer, has just launched a new, intrinsically safe mobile phone designed specifically to be used in hazardous work places.

The ‘Ex-Handy 07’, the world’s first ATEX Zone 1&21 mobile phone with integrated digital camera also offers a range of new features that deliver excellent connectivity, flexibility and safety. The phone comes with a built-in torch and GPS along with optional lone worker features and is also submersible in water.

There is also a wide range of specialised accessories to accompany the Ex-Handy 07, such as chargers, cases, extended batteries and a variety of Bluetooth ear protection headsets.

ecom Instruments, which is a member of business development organisation, NOF Energy, manufactures and supplies a range of specialist technical equipment, which are all designed and certified to be used in hazardous areas where there is a potential risk of explosion, such as oil refineries, chemical plants and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.

These include intrinsically safe mobile communication devices, laptops, handheld computers, measuring and calibration equipment and portable lighting which comply with the standard regulations for equipment used inside hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres developed by the EU, known as ATEX directives.

The UK operation is part of a global network of ecom subsidiaries, which are located in Europe, The United States, Asia and the Middle East.

Carl Henderson, ecom’s UK Managing Director, said: “We are incredibly pleased to announce the new durable and reliable Ex-Handy. We are continually improving the functionality of our phones to ensure they meet user need, even in extreme environments.”

Joanne Leng MBE, NOF Energy Director Business Development, said: “ecom continually produces first class products aimed at creating a safer work environment. It is an excellent example of the skills and expertise that exist within the NOF Energy membership, which can benefit the operations of the wider supply chain.”
