Kansas grain elevator explosion causes local evacuation

07 February 2012

About a dozen homes around the Arlington Co-op grain elevator in Reno County near Wichita, Kansas, were temporarily evacuated as firefighters tried to extinguish a fire started by an explosion on February 2.

Residents were allowed back inside their homes later that night after officials determined that another explosion was unlikely.

Sheriff Randy Henderson said two employees were on site at the time of the explosion, and one was transported to a local burn unit for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
