Firex South places spotlight on appropriate fire risk management

As indicated by the Department of Communities and Local Government, there were 28,000 building fires in England from April to September 2011. Addressing this subject matter from a commercial, installer, and domestic point of view, Firex South the regional fire and prevention exhibition, returns to Sandown Park Exhibition Centre, Surrey, from 13-14 March 2012.

With a fully inclusive, free, two-day fire safety seminar programme and a vast offering of fire prevention solutions provided by more than 60 of the UK’s principal suppliers and manufacturers, Firex South presents the most up-to-date industry news and developments from the fire industry.
Returning to Firex South, the info4fire.com Learning Zone will provide the latest information on fire safety legislation, products and standards, as well as active and passive fire protection fields and fire safety solutions. Delivered by www.info4fire.com, in conjunction with a number of the fire industry’s leading organisations and authorities, the two-day education programme will present a dedicated series of highly topical seminar sessions.
Day One includes: ‘Integrating Fire Detection into Building Management Systems’, delivered by Eva Kosanovic, Senior Product Manager, Apollo Fire Detectors; ‘The Application of Wire-free Detection and Alarm Solutions in Small and Medium size Buildings’ presented by David B Leigh, Regional Director, Detectomat, and ‘False Alarms’: and Graham Simons, Technical Manager, Fire Industry Association (FIA) will be explaining how unwanted fire alarm signals can be a serious threat to the effectiveness of fire detection and alarm systems.
Focusing on fire risk management in domestic properties, Day Two offers the sessions on ‘Enforcement of the Fire Safety Order in Housing’ delivered by Nick Coombe, chair of the CFOA enforcement working group; ‘Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Blocks of Flats’, consisting of a special extended workshop run by Colin Todd of CS Todd & Associates, authors of the Local Government Group’s new guidance document, Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Blocks of Flats; and ‘Risk Assessment and Passive Protection’ where Niall Rowan, Association for Specialist Fire Protection, will present an overview of a new fire risk assessor’s guide to passive/built-in fire protection.
