Explosion kills two at Orlen's Lithuania refinery

06 March 2012

Two workers died on March 3 after an explosion at Polish refiner PKN Orlen's Lietuva AB refinery in Lithuania. “Two persons died when a portable vacuum tank exploded. The accident occurred during loading of the catalyst into the fluid catalytic cracking unit,” the company said in a statement.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated, and the company said the explosion had not affected any of the refinery’s operations.

The refinery has a capacity of 200,800 barrels of oil per day.
