BP’s Cherry Point refinery to stay closed into April
09 March 2012
BP's 225,000 barrel per day (bpd) Cherry Point, Washington, refinery will remain shut into April for repairs due to a fire on February 17 and planned maintenance originally scheduled for later in the year, the company has announced.

The February 17 fire was at the plant's crude distillation unit
It said combining the work would reduce the amount of time the refinery will be shut. The refinery is third largest on the US West Coast and the largest in Washington state.
The fire was at the plant's crude distillation unit, and was apparently caused by a failure in a vacuum unit causing a release of heavy crude, which ignited when it came into contact with air. There were no reported injuries.
