Factory blast in Scottish Borders

17 July 2012

An explosion ripped through the casting area of the Border Fine Arts factory in Langholm on July 11. Staff were on their morning break when the incident occurred and no one was injured. On arrival, fire officers evacuated the factory, owned by Enesco, and extinguished the fire.

The Dumfries and Galloway Standard quoted Langholm community officer PC Alistair Mitchell as saying:  “There seems to have been a build-up of fumes which caused the explosion and there has been damage to the building. The roof is off and the windows blown out.”
